Transpower is the owner and operator of the National Grid. It sits at the centre of New Zealand’s electricity industry and is responsible for planning, building and maintaining the country’s high voltage electricity transmission network. In its role as the system operator, Transpower manages the real-time operation of New Zealand's power system. It keeps the right amount of energy flowing - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The National Grid is New Zealand’s energy backbone and underpins and sustains the country’s economic and social activity.
Transpower is a State-Owned Enterprise. The Minister for State-Owned Enterprises and the Minister of Finance are its shareholders, on behalf of all New Zealanders. In addition, Transpower is responsible for working with the Commerce Commission to ensure there is appropriate investment in the National Grid to meet New Zealand’s future electricity needs and to provide a strong backbone for economic growth.
Development, Civil, Planning Engineers and Power System Coordinators
Development Engineers
As a result of our long term project delivery commitments, we are recruiting additional development transmission line engineers to provide engineering and project management expertise. You will have a relevant tertiary qualification as well as experience in working in electricity transmission or distribution and undertaking project management or design of lines assets.
Civil Engineer
To provide Civil Engineering expertise to assist with the development of feasible solutions, preliminary designs and cost estimates for new build and up-rating/upgrading projects from concept through to the approval stage, ensuring all Transpower policies and stakeholder requirements are met and then to provide implementation support through to commissioning.
Specifically, there is a requirement for a dedicated intermediate to senior level (5-10yrs experience) civil engineer to assist with general civil (earthworks, access, benching, foundations, geotechnical) and where possible, structural design review, approval, and construction inspection and support.
Development of approved designs and specifications along with quality management plans, inspection and testing programmes, and active site participation in verification of construction, in conjunction with Transpower design consultants, contractors and implementation personnel.
Grid Planning Engineer
To be involved in a wide range of activities, including providing technical leadership/expertise for projects, updating and validating power system models, developing monitoring systems, specialist tasks such as unbalance analysis, harmonics, HVDC studies, control system modelling and investigating power quality/dynamic performance issues.
Bring your high level expertise, excellent report writing and communication skills to this multi-cultural team and high energy work environment. A tertiary qualification in electrical engineering with specialisation in power engineering is ideally sought.
Power System Coordinators
As System Operator, Transpower manages the real-time operation of New Zealand's Power System. We keep the right amount of energy flowing - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
At the heart of one of New Zealand’s most important infrastructure assets your main role will be to ensure the power system is secure by monitoring its day to day, real time, operation. You will competently and efficiently respond to incidents ensuring requirements under Electricity Governance Rules are continually met. Other key functions, include maintaining and improving processes which guarantee a consistent power supply for New Zealand.
